My macaroni and cheese is a delicious comfort food that all enjoy! This recipe is frequently requested when I go to parties. I have tried many different recipes of macaroni and cheese and finally designed a recipe that fit our families likes. It's so versatile that anything goes. We sometimes add ham cubes, or even conceal some vegetables in it so the children don’t realize they are eating something healthy in their favorite dish. This is a recipe I am proud of and it gives you crunchy, but creamy and satisfying. It can serve as a main dish, a side dish, or my kids even enjoy it as a snack

Ingredients

  • 1 pound macaroni
  • 1 3/4 cups NY extra sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 ounces Philadelphia Cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cream of mushroom soup (Campbell's)
  • 1/4 cup of finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder or 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs or cheez it crackers (smashed)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup NY extra sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup french fried onions (optional)
  • 4 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cook your macaroni according to box directions. Drain them and set aside. You will need to to grease a 2 Qt. casserole dish. In a large saucepan over medium heat, take your cream cheese, sour cream and cream of mushroom soup, milk and marry them together. Then add cheddar cheese, onion, garlic, salt and pepper. Once cheese is melted...add your macaroni and remove from heat. Transfer the macaroni mixture into a buttered casserole dish. Sprinkle your remaining ingredients, 1/2 cup cheese, parmesan, bread crumbs/cheez it crackers, french fried onions and bacon on top. Then cut your butter pieces (2 TBLS) on top of the topping placing it evenly across. Bake at 400 degrees uncovered for 30 to 45 minutes. (Depending on your level of crispy topping.) Serve and enjoy!
