I grew up in Maryland and what is more Maryland than crab? I remember spending time with my grandparents on the Chesapeake Bay and crabbing off the pier. Crab always remind me of family and of home, even though I now live in Atlanta. Making these turnovers instantly transports me back to my childhood and all those great memories!

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces softened Kraft Philadelphia cream cheese, divided
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon chives, chopped
  • 3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup crab meat, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions

  1. Prepare the cream cheese pastry: Cream the butter and 8 ounces of cream cheese in a medium bowl. Stir in the flour. Pat the dough into a disk, cover with plastic wrap and chill at least 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the crab filling: Combine the remaining 8 ounces cream cheese, Old Bay Seasoning, chives and Worcestershire sauce. Stir in the crab meat.
  3. Roll the dough out to 1/8th inch thickness on a lightly floured surface and use a 3 inch round cutter to make rounds. Place a rounded teaspoon of the crab filling on each round. Fold in half and use a fork to seal the edges. Place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  4. Bake in a preheated 450 degree oven for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and add a sprinkle of cheddar to each turnover. Return to the oven for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.
