I want to take a lot of my recipes and scan them into my lap top then print them out to make a cookbook for my grandson. { he wants to become a chef} the problem is I don't know how to use the printer other than the copy button...could anyone help me?

You could open up an image program (Paint Shop Pro, for instance), and import from your scanner. Once you import, you can print it out.

Thanks I'll try that, hope I can figure it out...my daughter is right I need to get into this century! I have got to learn all this new tec stuff...usually my grandson just does it! But I want to surprise him with a homemade cookbook. Thanks again...I really appreciate it.

Try this and see if it helps.
Start off by making sure your scanner is connected and on while you're doing this.
On your computer screen, go to the left and down.
Click on the start button there.
See if you can find a program called Paint.
If so, click on it to open it up.
Go to the upper left hand corner of Paint where there's something that looks like a little notebook or piece of paper.
Click on that.
Scroll down to where it says, "From scanner or camera," and click on that.
A box type of thing will pop up, and you should be able to go from there.

Once you've scanned your piece of paper, go back to that little notebook looking thing on the upper left hand side and click on it to save your scan.

Let me know whether or not you have any problems with this. I'm not sure what kind of operating system you have, but I'm assuming it's Windows.

I'm rooting for you! I think your grandson will be really surprised if you figure this out. Also, I was thinking about the cookbook my mom and sister put together for our family. They scanned my grandmother's recipes, and put them into those plastic page covers (I have no idea what they're called), and put the plastic pages in a binder. That way, no spills mess up the paper.

Okay printed out the instructions you sent me! Thanks...can't wait to try it...yes I have a binder already a 5" black one , it was expensive but will last for years and I'll be useing sheet protectors to slip the recipes into. Also going to include a table of contents and dividers. Plus a few slim dry ease markers that he can mark on the sheet protectors and wipe off if need be...but I think I better wait till tomorrow to try it it's almost 2 am here and by 3 am I'll be ready for bed...THANKS AGAIN!

Hi Dgoil ,
You explained it very well and yes I did it ! I scanned and printed for several hours {ok so more than several} I ran out of ink already! So tomorrow it's off to the store to get more ink! And it's great too...it's coming out nice. Plain and simple but I think that's best !!! Thank you so much! Now that I learned how to do that I think I'm ready to learn more things on computer!
You never know when or how someone will pop into your life and be an inspiration...you have insprired me to learn more now!!! I appreciate it very much and once again Thank-you! You are an Angel !!!

You're welcome, and I'm so glad you did it! Paint is a program that comes with Windows, so you don't have to go buy another program to use. Personally, I like other imaging programs better. If you were able to get a program like Paint Shop Pro, you can rotate images if they're off a bit by different percentages, crop them, etc. I think it's relatively easy to use, but I don't want to bombard you with more stuff when you have something working already. Now, if you get that digital camera.....you can use Paint to open up your pictures and edit them. ;) I thought I read somewhere that you didn't have a camera, but I'm not sure if that was you or not. Maybe we can get you going with the pictures and everything!

Well goodness I used up 187 pieces of paper so far! had to take a break! I can barely use my cell phone not sure if I could use a digital camera. I still don't even know how to program the vcr and it's gone by into dvd...lol !!! I am tecnically challenged ! That what my grandson calls it...as you can see he can't spell yet either but he is only 10! He does all that stuff for me and taught me how to use the cell phone and some things on the computer too...grandchildren you gotta love them...he is my buddy though!
