We make a potato casserole that is hands down the best. We start with 2 bags of frozen hash brown style potatoes, add 2 cans of cream of chicken soup, a container of sourcream, a package of cream cheese, some onions, salt and pepper. mix it all up, pour into a large baking pan, and bake for 30-45 minutes. during last 15 minutes, melt some butter, stir in enough crisp rice cereal to absorb butter, and sprinkle over the potatoes. finish baking until the potatoes are done, hot and bubbly, and the topping starts to brown. We didnt need any meat with this, just a fork, and maybe a little salad on the side. This started with my pennsylvania dutch grandmother, passed to my mom, me and now to my daughters. -
My husbands family has passed down their Stromboli recipe for 5 generations and our children are the 6th generation and our grandchildren will be the 7th generation !! -
My great grandmother use to make homemade peanut brittle and it was passes to my grandmother, then to my mother, then to me, now to my daughter and my granddaughter. It is a tradition that will not die in our family !!! -
Probably the only homemade food recipes passed down from Mama is her creamed potatoes and meatloaf. Even though they are her basic recipes, I use olive oil instead of butter in the potatoes and use ground turkey instead of ground chuck and add way more black pepper in the meatloaf. -
My grandparents owned a famous restaurant, and my grandmother ran the kitchen. My favorite dessert that she made was rice pudding with nutmeg and lemon juice. Amazing! -
My mom made cream cheese stuffed prunes for a part of dinner plates from time time: She'd open up bagged prunes, cut them in half, and fill the halves with cream cheese. Mmmmmmmmmmm. My mom was the best cook who set us a lovely and well-balanced dinner every night, without a recipe book. -
My Great Grandmas rum balls and stuffed cabbage are family favorites that have been passed down forever. -
The famous meat pie that my dad makes...they are always finished not too long after they are made :) -

My godmother Helen's cheesecake. She passed the recipie down to me and I have passed it down to my daughter. I know it will be passed down even further with 4 grandaughters. It is the most delicious cheesecake I have ever eaten especially using Philly creamcheese. Everyone asks when I'm going to make it!! -
My Grandmother would make the best cookies at Christmas time. I always looked forward to them. She would make neopolitan cookies with chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavored dough, sprinkle cookies, wedding cookies, you name it. They were wonderful! :) -
my great grandmother's old fashioned morning brown sugar sweet rolls.....
About 3 cups of self rising flour (or Bisquick)when using the flour, blend in criso, add buttermilk to make a good dough, dust your countertop, roll dough out very thin...with soften butter, butter the entire rolled dough....then sprinkle heavily brown sugar over the butter, roll the dough, cut into about 1 or 2 in cust, criso a metal pan, set your oven to 350, place dough cuts in pan and bake until bubbly brown......WONDERFUL!!
you can also place your dough in plastic wrap, frig and bake in the am for fresh morning goodness with a cup of coffee....so so great!
I use to get up to this special treat every sat. or sunday morning and know it was going to be a great start to the day...my mother, grandmother were excellent cooks! -
