Happy Monday Real Women of Philadelphia!
The holiday season is inching closer and closer, and before you know it, it’ll be time to prepare for those festive dinners, parties and events! Many of you know cooking for a crowd can be a lot trickier than it looks, which is why this week’s RWOP Cooing School lessons are all about parties!
Over the next few days, we’ll dish out tips, tricks and some of your crowd pleasing PHILADELPHIA recipes that will get you through the season in one piece, so let’s get the party started!

Planning a grown up Halloween bash this month? This LAVENDER HONEY INFUSED WATER makes the perfect aperitif, but you’ll certainly want to follow up with this French custom by serving HEATHER WALKER’S recipe for CHIPOTLE BACON CHEDDAR TOTS!

We’ll be partying all week long, but tell us: What was the best party you ever attended, and what made it so special? Was it the food or how about the decor? Tell us all of the details in the Comments below!

And Claudia Signal-Leon bought and brought the ingredients for my Strawberry-Creme Ambrosia. I couldn't have afforded to make my litle contribution to the dessert efforts otherwise. She also handled the presentation of this dessert masterfully and beautifully. Thanks again, Claudia! Love and Blessings - Carol C. - Cee Cee -
Hi Sheila!!! [I say sheepishly . . .] Your last name is Cutchlow. I remembered it over my morning coffee at the Atco Diner. Love and Blessings Carol C. - Cee Cee -
Parties with family is always the nicest; and the last family party with my husbands family where all of us were together was ever so great because that year we lost his mom and dad at holiday time. -

Carol, wow, that must have been fantastic!
Would have enjoyed that afternoon, the recipes sound nummy! -
Hi Monica! Nice to hear from you again. Actually, one of the most remarkable parties that I have gone to in recent years was a RWoP party in Southeastern Pennsylvania - Coleen McRae Katz's home. Her home is positvely gorgeeous! And she had set out all of her formal china and dinner silver service for us. I went with a guy named Paul, the baby brother of my friend Lewis.
I met Claudia Signal-Leon and Sheila there. [Shelia, sorry but I have forgotten your last name. And your daughter was with you. You were a host from our first season.] And Audrey Mack. Audrey taught us all to make her 'famous' family heritage recipe for Asparagus Cream Cheese on Bread Rollups.
I made my own Strawberry Creme Ambrosia. It takes a while to chill in the fridge, that's the only thing that might keep it out of this Contest - I'll have to try it again sometime.
It was a great cooking event as well a dining event - the best of both parts of partying and hostess-ing! And many thanks to Coleen and RWoP! -
I went to a wedding once where all the food was served as appetizers. We had spaghetti and meatballs and prime rib, all bite size! I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Then the decor was all a mixture of lots of vibrant colors, just like the food... who says an entire wedding has to be lavender, just because the bride chose it for the ribbon on her bouquet, right? monixo -

I went to a Christmas party with my coworkers in 1971. I started talking to a certain intern at the beginning of the party. I wasn't impressed with him professionally. He was slow with order changes. Many interns were. We sat down on the floor next to a wall due to too few chairs. We never moved the entire party. The party happened around us. We started dating after that. And were engaged by Easter, married that summer, and celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary this year. I'm not sure we ate anything at all! But he still remembers my dress ; ) -
My husband and I had a small wedding. We threw a smudging for all our friends and families in celebration. Tablecloths were tie dyed we had an acoustic guitarist and 60's music. The food was simple but impressive. Everyone pitched in to help cook serve and clean up, what a blast -
Best party I ever attended and also planned was the Inaugural Z Krewe Mardi Gras Ball. There were three bands for non-stop music, open bar for non-stop refreshments of all kind of wet sipping flavors, Champagne toasts, and OM Gosh the food... Appetizers of caviar and Sushi, finger foods served in Black-tie, Entrees were AWE! A whole roasted pig with the apple in the mouth, Gulf Coast Boiled Jumbo Shrimp, Salads, Pastas, Sides, Baron of Beef with condiments and sauces, desserts and coffees. We raise the bar on going first-class and we still do. Everyone loves Z Ball! Royal Coronation, entertainment, radio streaming live from the ballroom. We partied until 1 PM and then carried it to about 5 AM in our Hospitality Suite. People still rave about this one! -
Theme parties sound like fun! I never been to one GWOP Girl.
Has anyone here been to a theme party? -
Best party was a Christmas Party we attended back in 1990. There was food of every kind -- appetizers, hors d' oeuvres, entrees, salads... crab, lobster, shrimp, filet mignon. Everything!

Best party (that comes to immediate memory) was when I worked as a District Secretary for a Fortune 500 Company's Sales and Service Division. We were No. 1 in sales for the year and my District Manager planned the dinner at a 5 Star Restaurant in downtown Louisville, KY. ...He didn't make it (:... Told us all (me and the four engineers) to put what we wanted on the credit card. (o.O) The bill was over $800 dollars and this was back in 1989! We. had. a. blast. Then, we finished off the night at a club, The Toy Tiger. I remember one of the sales reps, an ex-jock running across tables and a shoe being thrown out the car window for some reason ... LOL!... Oh! What fun that was... btw, those tator tots up there sound reeeeally good! -
I went to a celebrity ball at a trade show once that was so much fun. We mingled and danced Adam Sandler and Al & Tipper Gore. Everything was just perfect from food to music. -
Those parties sound like they were a blast! Good food, good friends: Nothing is better than that! Anyone attend a bash with a neat theme? Like a tropical luau or a 1970s disco party? -
My husband and I was invited to the Governor's Ball 2 years ago and it was alot of fun. Dressing up, good food, dancing, just an all around fun time. -
I would have to go with my niece's grad party...the food was amazing, we had it set outside, beautiful weather, family and friends, what a blessing to celebrate... -
I have to say the most memorable party I've attended, and I'm still not too sure how I did so, was a birthday party of Peter Fonda's while I was in college. Not only was the home over the top, but the buffet offered food I had never even heard of which probably had something to do with creating the foodie monster I am today. It was also quite a treat seeing him blow out his birthday candles too! -
The best party I ever attended was the family reunion. My grandmother and I cooked and baked for three days. The reunion was wonderful but it was the private party she planned that was the best. She set up the parlor with all her silverware and crystal, set up a buffet with fingerfood and desserts ...everything was perfect to look at. Then we got dressed up like victorian ladies hats and all. She brought in a tray with her siler pots, creamer and sugar bowl .The tea was already seeping. She let me use her old country roses china for the first time that day! It was a wonderful experiance as she taught me how to be a lady at high tea...it was a time between her and I that I will always cherish...it wasn't so much all the food and tea as it was that I was special that day...and we shared the time without anyone interruppting. It is a cherished memory that she left me! Still brings me to tears when I think about it and if you'll excuse me it's time I go seep some tea of course in the silver teapot! -
I had a dinner party with close friends, great food and drinks and great conversation. We had a really great evening!! -
The best party I've ever attended was filled with good food, friends, family, laughter, cocktails, and did I mention good food? It was a surprise birthday party for my mother's 75th. The star of the show was rosemary pesto leg of lamb with lemon and original Philly....yummm!!!! -
