Hi Real Women of Philadelphia,
Today we're back to spotlight two all-American dishes that got a PHILADELPHIA twist - one dish is from a new member of RWOP and one is from a member who has been here from the beginning!
The first recipe is for a HOT AND CHEESY TURKEY SANDWICH from new member KRISTEN CLAYTON, who switched things up by using alfalfa sprouts.

The second dish we're spotlighting is an APPLE BLACKBERRY CRISP from DGOIL, an RWOP vet! This photo makes us want to grab a fork and dive right in, agreed?

Love these recipes and photos! Best of luck in the Your Kitchen of Dreams contest, you two.
You can find more recipes like these HERE in our Recipe Gallery, which will come in handy when you’re planning that upcoming Labor Day menu!
With All-American dishes on the mind, we want to know: Do you have a favorite diner in your hometown? If so, what’s it called and what’s your favorite thing to order?

Thank you for spotlighting one of my recipes!! It is too funny that this is the recipe in the spotlight on August 30th because we actually made these sandwiches for a football party we had on September 1st. Perfect sandwich for football season!
Growing up in Nebraska my favorite diner was King's Drive Inn and my favorite thing to order was Cheese Frenchees which are deep fried cheese sandwiches, paired with a chocolate malt - heaven! Now that I live in Arizona my favorite place to go is Macayos - they have the BEST Green Chili Corn Tamales with Baja Sauce. -
I totally missed this post! Thanks for the spotlight. With apples and berries being in season, I think it would be a lot of fun for people to try different variations.
There are a lot of interesting places to eat around here. There are a couple of places in a small town near us that are unbelievable. One is a deli that serves incredible steak sandwiches. They use some sort of marinade on the meat and cook it up...HEAVEN! Another is a diner that I went to once, and the food was the worst I ever had. I mean, the WORST! We were desperate one day on a drive home and decided to give it a second chance because everyone raved about it. I'm so glad we did give it a second chance. It was FABULOUS. Not one thing was bad, and we determined it must've been an off night. I'm one of those people that will order breakfast for dinner, and have some sort of need for a Western Omelette every time.... WHY?? I have no idea. Oh, and onion rings count for everything... I've been known to rate places based on how good their onion rings taste. -

I love it when there are REAL women with Real Recipes in the spotlight! Congratulations to Kristen and Dgoil! Yummy eats for sure!
Our local grease spot (NOT) is about 1/10 of a mile from my front door. It's called Kelley's Country Kitchen and they serve the biggest baked potato in the world. It is so big you have to take half of it home with you. I have never been able to eat the whole thing. Good home style cooking, huge servings and great prices. My favorite there is this Texas sized potato loaded with everything and topped with chipped BBQ beef. The thing takes up an entire platter! Unbelievable! The place is always packed and is open 24/7 and offers a 7-page menu packed full of good eats! Breakfast all day and their shrimp salad is simply delicious! -
Congrats to Kristen & my friend Dgoil for the front page feature today! Both of those looked yummy!
I live in Norman, OK, home of OU! The most famous Diner here is "The Diner", and was actually featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dive with Guy Fieri. Their specialty is award-winning chili, which they put on and in everything! It's located in historic old downtown on Main St., in what's called the James Garner Corridor (he's from Norman) and it's just a hole in the wall and you have to wait forever to get a table! It's long and narrow with one row of booths down one wall and the only other seating is at the counter, but it's just as long and they cook right there! A TRUE Diner relic for sure! -

Dressed Cheeseburgers ! I don't know what it is but I've always turned the best ones out when I made them there. -
Debbie, fried green tomtatoes ALWAYS seem to be perfect at small little diners. Are there any other other foods that are just better at neighborhood restaurants and diners? -
Pamela, we do have many things in common-I love you 2 :)-it is the dog hair, keeps plugging my vacuum and I usually vacuum first, so if I can't vacuum then cleaning waits a day after my husband comes home from work and fixes it. -
... ok, I'll testify, my vac's been broken for a year. I simply gave up ! You may think 5 (then) snow dogs in the country is safe but I keep mine in at night and Bissell just can't handle it! I had taken the entire thing apart several times to the point I almost opened up my own repair shop, but it just kept blowing up on me. I needed a space suit. So, I just gave up on it and I've been using a broom ever since. Thank goodness my floors aren't carpeted. -
I love you Juliana ... we have SO much in common. You have no idea :) My Lucy self screwed up. Mellencamp song refers to Tastee Freeze, not Polly Freeze. But around here, we all sang it Polly Freeze. We had Tastee Freeze too, but Polly Freeze is the bomb diddity and Mellencamp grew up just 40 miles from us. I was brain washed! -
Thanks guys-I mean gals-:)-Pamela I have problems with vacuum cleaners too. When I first met my husband the vacuum started smoking because it sucked up a sock, so I took it by the lake in front of our apartment-my husband came home and ever since he started calling me "Lucy" from I love Lucy. :)-still have problems with vacuums til this day and can openers too :) -
Julianna, I almost posted White Castle ! lol ... I love sliders and their chocolate shakes. That's actually what reminded me Gennys and Pollys Freeze. You're not crazy! I thought I was the only one tackling a can opener. So there! -
I wish I had a good old fashioned diner in my town, I LOVE diner food. When I lived in San Diego, we had a great diner called The Red Corvette and it was a 50's style diner complete with a Soda Fountain. I loved eating there. Give me a good greasy Cheeseburger with fries and a chocolate Malt and I'm in HEAVEN! -

So many amazing dishes and talent it's a bit overwhelming ! What a wealth of knowledge to tap into. Just awesome ! Favorite diner is/was Genny's Diner ... home of the deep fried frickled pickle. Best cheeseburgers ever too! Sadly, the original is a parking lot now and under new management at a different location. RIP Frickle Pickle *sniff* ...Not the same as the story goes. Which brings to mind another local hotspot and infamous for John Mellencamp's Jack & Dianne tune ... Pollys Freeze IceCream Shoppe. The best chili dogs and shakes on the planet. And, the old neon signs at night make it light up like magic ! You can google image both if ya want to take a peak.
